Legislative Building - Iloilo City, Philippines |
Rising
steadily beside the Iloilo City Hall is a new symbol of modern governance and
people-centered progress: the soon-to-be-completed Iloilo City Legislative
Building. An eight-story, state-of-the-art facility, this new structure
represents more than just bricks and mortar—it is a clear testament to Iloilo’s
transformation under strong, visionary leadership.
Mayor Jerry
P. Treñas, in a statement filled with optimism and pride, described the
building as a “landmark of progress,” underscoring the city’s continued
commitment to good governance, transparency, and efficient public service.
“Progress is not just about moving forward,” the mayor emphasized. “It’s about
building on a strong foundation.”
For many
years, members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP)—the legislative arm of the
Iloilo City Government—carried out their vital roles within the confined
quarters of the City Hall. Despite limited space and rising demands, councilors
and staff remained steadfast in their mission to serve the Ilonggo people. The
completion of this new legislative hub marks a major turning point for local
governance, allowing the city’s lawmakers to work in an environment that
matches the scope of their responsibilities.
A Building Designed for the Future
The new
Legislative Building has been thoughtfully designed to meet the evolving needs
of the city. Key features include:
- A modern session hall that
encourages transparency and collaboration among council members
- Expanded office spaces that provide a more conducive working environment for SP members and staff
- A footbridge connecting the Legislative Building directly to City Hall, enhancing coordination between office
- A multi-purpose auditorium with a seating capacity of over 250, ideal for public hearings, civic events, and stakeholder forums
- Parking facilities for 100 vehicles, helping ease traffic congestion in the area
These enhancements are part of the city’s larger RISE Iloilo City agenda, specifically aligning with the W.H.E.E.L.S. for Inclusive Development framework under Essential Resilient Infrastructure. The building also embodies the goals of Vice Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon and the Uswag City Councilors, who played pivotal roles in making this vision a reality.
A New Era of Public Service
The
Legislative Building is more than just a structure—it is a reflection of Iloilo
City’s aspirations. It symbolizes a government that listens, adapts, and
delivers for its people. The facility is also expected to foster greater civic
engagement, with more space and opportunities for community involvement in
legislative processes.
As the
finishing touches are applied and the building prepares to fully open its
doors, it stands as an enduring monument to what can be achieved through unity,
vision, and service.
“This is
how we build a future-ready, people-centered, and progressive Iloilo City,”
Mayor Treñas declared. “PadayonsakaUSWAGan, pinalangga ko nga Ciudad sang
Iloilo!”
