A 29 year old local designer and make up artist Ralph Roderick John Pareja from Poblacion Ilaya, Passi City, Iloilo stunned many netizens of his creativity and ideas. He fascinatingly created various and interesting designs of face mask amidst of corona virus disease 2019 (COVID19) scare.

Effectively making use of time while staying at home could mean so many things in our lives. While most people are
probably enjoying movies and Korean series via
Netflix and some are maybe recording videos for
TikTok, this young artist of Passi, Iloilo was productively satisfying himself by making unique, funky and extravagant art pieces.
He accepted that his life became extra boring right after the announcement of Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) due of COVID19. Everyone is mandated to stay at home and firmly cooperate with the instructions to help make the work of LGUs, volunteers and front liners lighter. Instead of becoming less, he decided to conceptualize and create something unique and nice designs of the ‘must-have face mask’ to take his restlessness away. Currently, he already have 9 designs including his recent and most favorite piece, the “pista sa nayon mask”. It reminds him of the Filipino culture and celebrations that were postponed because of the current worldwide health crisis covid19. “The mask signifies the norms of a true blooded Filipino.” Pareja explained.

“My inspiration in making these designs are my family and friends who really pushed me to be creative and to always try something new. Those who discriminated my works are also a big factors [that affected me] for doing these kinds of creations. Also, the compliments that I get from other people inspires me to be more driven in this field of work.” he added.
How nice it is to know that all his designs or concepts were original. His works are not made from brand new materials but rather made from his discarded materials or decors from his previous decorating-gigs.

Apart from the love of making these attractive masks, he is also a freelance event decorator and florist. He also designs and sews themed-clothes and makes costumes for dolls. Please see photo below.

His creativity is such a wonderful inspiration to many people. Ralph is indeed an amazing and ingenious stunner. He has words of encouragement for those who are like him bored and stuck at home.
“There’s a lot of things you can do at home. Be creative, be innovative, think out of the box. Life is fun. It is our choice whether we do nothing or we do something.”
