Iloilo City open for Business



Iloilo City opens wide its doors to possibilities as giant businesses continue pouring in billions of pesos with the influx of investments in the metropolis.

Mayor Jerry Treñas welcomed the big developments which help generate employment opportunities and economic activities for the benefit of the Ilonggos.

Ayala President and Chief Executive Officer Fernando Zobel de Ayala made good his promise to invest more in the booming Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) in the metro when he met with Treñas earlier.

AyalaLand Offices will be constructing two BPO towers following the groundbreaking of 12,000 sqm of each building site at Atria Park District, Mandurriao March 30.

No less than SM Investments Corp. Vice Chairman Teresita Sy-Coson visited the City Government’s newly-opened Offsite Payment Center at SM City Iloilo in February.

Expansion of SM City and a new mall in the Jaro district are in the pipeline while the condo development of SMDC at the Circumferential Road has started construction work.

Executive Vice President Kevin Tan graced the groundbreaking of Iloilo City Action and Response (ICARE) at Iloilo Business Park in Mandurriao on March 3 where he revealed the 20-hectare expansion of 72-hectare township and new high-impact projects. He went back during the inauguration 30/36 MVA substation of MORE Power on March 22.

Treñas also met with top executives of Lopez-owned First Balfour relative to their proposal for an electric or e-vehicle Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) poised to become a very important milestone in the transportation industry. The Lopezes trace their roots to Iloilo.

“This will be very good for Metro Iloilo since this will help us avoid what happened to the traffic situation of the NCR and Cebu. I look forward to this project and it is my hope that it will move forward smoothly," said Treñas.

After the Central and Terminal Markets Public-Private Partnership (PPP) has been finalized with SM Prime, the city’s PPP team is now discussing the Waste-To-Energy (WTE) unsolicited proposal of Metro Pacific.

“I am excited about this WTE proposal since this will help us manage our waste. After which, we will take up the unsolicited proposals for the construction of housing for informal settlers. Also included in the line-up for PPP proposals is the proposed reclamation,” Treñas stressed.

“Iloilo City is continuing its efforts to level up. We are targeting to be one of top 5 most livable highly urbanized cities by 2028," he added. (Iloilo City PIO)
