In celebration of Breastfeeding Awareness Month, HIMBON with SM City Iloilo and SM Cares presents “Ilig sang Kabuhi” an exclusive Art Exhibit at SM City Iloilo Northwing.

This event highlighted breastfeeding awareness and aims to convey many important messages to everyone that a woman's breast is not just a mere breast but is a "fountain of life", a "source of nourishment" and is as "valuable as gold".

The act of breastfeeding can help mothers lessen the chance of getting sick by preventing breast cancer, ovarian cancer, heart disease, stroke, type-2 diabetes, and postpartum depression. It is a fact that mothers who breastfeed their young, the more she is protected against these illnesses.

"Thank you for helping us create a supportive environment where every woman feels equal and empowered to breastfeed wherever they are and for mothers to be, to inspire them to consider breastfeeding." Adhara Sebuado expressed her thanks via her Facebook account after the event.

SM City Iloilo, SM care, and the whole management of SM support these kinds of relevant activities, especially events that help uplift the community and empower women.

Also, few artists did on-the-spot sketching making the breastfeeding mothers subjects. The event was supported by friends, families, partners, and friends from the media.

You can check the art exhibit at SM City Iloilo Northwing Event Center from August 8 until August 22, 2022. You may purchase the artworks in support of the advocacy groups to help add funds for the projects and events in the dissemination of the importance of breastfeeding, correct information, and changing the stigma of negative feedback on breastfeeding in public.

"Through the creative expression of our artists and the support of our partners, we aim to raise awareness of the benefits of breastfeeding and the beauty of a mother’s journey with her child. We hope that in doing so, we are able to positively influence the acceptance of breastfeeding by mothers as a means to nourish their children, in support of the UN Sustainable Development Goals targeting Zero Hunger, Good Health, and Well-being." Engr. Gilbert Domingo, Mall Manager of SM City Iloilo expressed his thanks and support to everyone.
Likewise, we ensure that the message we communicate is followed by services and facilities to support women, particularly in creating a safe space and welcoming environment for a mother to nurse her child. The establishment of our Breastfeeding Stations across all SM Supermalls nationwide, for example, has received over 1 million mothers since their introduction, averaging nearly 170,000 visitors annually.
You’re Always Welcome Here", and we show that “SM Cares” by supporting the individual choices that a mother may make, with regard to her health and breastfeeding preference. We hope you will also welcome the different interpretations of motherhood and the lasting connections built from breastfeeding that are reflected in the artworks you will see today."
