Many people are still curious about what yoga is and are at the same time, interested in giving it a try. Everyone knows that it is highly beneficial to our physical body and known to improve one's focus and mindfulness.

"Yoga is not just about stretching or gaining muscles and strength. Yoga is a union with God - it is a spiritual journey." Teacher Peter Randell Cambronero defined.

Peter Randell Cambronero, also known as Teacher Ravi in the Yoga Wellness, is an Ilonggo who started his yoga journey in 1994 back when he was still in college. In addition, Teacher Randell is a strict vegetarian and believes that we should be eating food with good and high energy.

Park Inn by Radisson Iloilo hosted a wellness event at Madja-as Pool Side with Teacher Randell. We practiced Asanas - which means body posture, or poses where you are comfortably held.

Asanas are gentle and slow stretches that help the body lubricate the joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, and other parts of the body. These poses are designed to massage internal organs. That's why movements are slow and should always synchronize with proper breathing.

"There are two kinds of asanas, one is designed to help you go into meditation, and the other one is purely physical. I usually teach the other one which is much more relaxing, designed to help you go to a meditative state," he added.

Asanas Yoga can help you improve circulation, release tension in the body, promote flexibility, and tone the nervous system. Asanas are meant to be performed in a slow, relaxed, and methodical manner.

If you are one of those who is still in doubt, or afraid to try yoga, maybe this is your sign. You don't need to be extra fit and flexible to get started with yoga. You can learn it along the way. Yoga teaches us to be patient, more conscious, and learn things gradually.

"It is your body that receives this kindness during the class. You shouldn't feel tortured during yoga classes. Right after, you should feel relaxed and comfortable." Cambronero explained.
